As Rugiatu Kanu, better known as Sister Rugie, I've journeyed through a life marked by both profound challenges and inspiring triumphs. My story, deeply rooted in resilience and transformation, serves as a beacon of hope and empowerment for women worldwide.

As Rugiatu Kanu, better known as Sister Rugie, I've journeyed through a life marked by both profound challenges and inspiring triumphs. My story, deeply rooted in resilience and transformation, serves as a beacon of hope and empowerment for women worldwide.
Facing Adversity in Sierra Leone
Born amidst the chaos of Sierra Leone's brutal Rebel War, my early years were overshadowed by loss and turmoil. The war cruelly snatched away three of my sisters, leaving scars that would shape my life's mission. This period of intense suffering forged within me a resilience and a deep empathy for those enduring similar pain. It was amid these harrowing circumstances that my determination to make a meaningful difference was born.
A New Beginning in England
In pursuit of a brighter future, I moved to England, where my educational journey began. I was driven by a firm belief in the transformative power of knowledge. Earning a Diploma in Nursing, a BSc in Pharmacology, and a Master's in Public Health, I armed myself with the tools necessary to enact change and become a voice for advocacy.
Founding a Movement of Change
My commitment to upliftment and social justice first materialized through the founding of "Advocate for Good Governance Sierra Leone." This NGO was my first step in a lifelong journey of leadership and community service, dedicated to uplifting those who suffered in environments like those I had once known.
In 2022, my vision expanded with the establishment of the Women 4 Women Empowerment Charity Organisation (W4WE) in Southwark, London. This organization isn't just about providing immediate assistance; it's about empowering women through education, vocational training, and fostering self-reliance. W4WE's initiatives, including the Southwark Women's Hygiene Bank project, are designed to provide growth opportunities, enabling women to shape their own destinies.
A Global Call for Empowerment
My story is an invitation to join a global movement of empowerment. Through W4WE, I strive to demonstrate how empathy, education, and unwavering commitment can transform lives. This is a collaborative journey, necessitating the support and contributions of a broader community. It's about creating change, instilling hope, and opening pathways to success and happiness.
Envisioning a Future of Change
As I continue my work, my impact reaches beyond the immediate communities I serve. My life is a testament to overcoming adversity through resilience and compassion, showing that personal tragedy can be channelled into a lifelong mission of empowerment and service.
Embracing the Motto:
"Be Part of the Change"
My journey from the trials in Sierra Leone to founding a significant charitable organization in the UK is more than a tale of inspiration. It exemplifies how individual courage and determination can ignite a wider movement for change. "Be Part of the Change" is not merely a motto; it's a call to action for everyone who believes in the power of empowerment and the strength of community. It's an invitation to be part of a story that continues to unfold, impacting lives and shaping futures globally.
In sharing my story, I hope to inspire others to join in this movement, to become part of the change that we wish to see in the world. Together, we can create a better future for women and girls everywhere.

Gender equality is a basic Human Rights and it is also fundamental have a peaceful and prosperous world. Girls and women continue to face significant challenges around the world. Women are typically underrepresented in power and decision-making roles. They receive unequal pay for equal work and they often face legal and other barriers that affect their opportunities at work.
In the developing world, girls and women are often seen as less valuable than boys. Instead of being sent to school, they are often made to do domestic work at home or get into an early marriage before they become adults. Around 12 million of underage girls are getting married every year. We need to come together to help eradicate the problems of gender inequality.
